“.. The power of ceremony: it marries the mundane to the sacred..

The water turns to wine, the coffee to a prayer. The material and the spiritual mingle like grounds mingled with humus, transformed like steam rising from a mug into the morning mist.
What else can you offer the earth, which has everything? What else can you give but something of yourself? A homemade ceremony, a ceremony that makes home.”

- Robin Wall Kimmerer.

In everything I do and offer there is the connection to the sacred. As how we relate to the world around us and to ourselves is the core of our being living this life. Don’t be mistaken with the way it looks or worry about being perfect. It is messy and beautiful.
Enjoy and let’s walk together.

About Xamira

Everything will be alright (alles komt goed) - something I said since I was a little child. Especially when choosing a different direction or follow my intuition away from the social accepted path of ´how things are supposed to be´. With a strong will and curiosity that drove me as a child to the place I am now. This call for independence, curiosity and freedom is rooted so deeply and is the core of whatever I offer and do in my live.

I am born and raised in the Netherlands from a Dutch mother and Indian (Suriname) dad. This mixed heritage caused me to feel at home anywhere and nowhere at all. From an early age I was introduced to death from up close, when my brother passed away at the age of 5. This life event impacted my life in such a way that I understood that life has to be lived. And while we are at it, we are learning and better enjoy the journey. Looking back I always found my refuge with horses and the ocean, which made me feel alive and rooted.

The conventional school system, any system for that matter, always made me feel I didn’t fit in completely although I loved knowledge and learning more. As soon as I graduated I took off and lived abroad for 3,5 years. During this time I was introduced to Yoga when living in India for a year. This introduction changed my way of looking at the world and mostly it just made sense. Not having the perfect words or theory, but mostly the experience of how to start living in a way with harmony and compassion regardless of what happens in your live. At the same time providing a certain structure and ancient knowledge as guidance.

How can we live in such a way that we feel in harmony with our surroundings and most importantly with ourselves? How do we live in such a way that we actually feel alive?

This encounter with the teachings of Yoga set me on a path of inquiry and coming back to the Netherlands I started my studies of Philosophy at the University of Amsterdam. I was lucky to find professors interested and skilled in ‘non-western’ philosophy and western esotericism to keep on learning about a bigger world picture than the western canon.

Over the course of the next years of studying theory, practicing mostly ashtanga yoga, travelling back and forth to India to learn more, I developed a strict routine and a discipline. Only to undo it years later. Because in order to be truly free you need to walk your own path.

“Epimeleia Hautou : Care of the Self -

An attitude, attention (focus) towards the Self, others and the world. Through actions by which ones changes, transforms and transfigures oneself ..”

— Michel Foucault, Hermeneutics of the Subject

  • My journey with Yoga

I was seriously introduced to Yoga while living in Mumbai, India in 2011. After a decade of practicing (ashtanga & hatha) Yoga and making this practice a ritual and daily routine, I started to assist with renowned ashtanga yoga teachers to learn the teachings of mysore style.

I studied with R. Sharath Jois in Mysore, India for several times and continues to do so. I have had the privileged to practice with many other devoted and generous teachers: Regina Ehlers, Claudia Pradella, Xico Rodrigues, Rolf & Marci Naujokat, Chuck Miller, Luke Jordan, Sonja Radvila for extended periods of time. Currently my studies are expanding into pranayama, yoganidra with Kaya Mindlin and restorative asana in the Iyengar tradition.

  • My modelling career

I started in the fashion industry in 2010 in Cape Town with Moda Models. Since that time I continue travelling abroad as a model for the next few years. I was based in India, China, Philippines, Turkey, the Netherlands and Germany.

I do runway, commercials, catalogue and campaign shootings. I am experienced with film and photoshootings.

I have done jobs for ELLE, CarlsBerg, AOK, Deutsche Bahn, Dr. Hauschka, Eloah Yoga, Sabayasachi, Woolworths SA, AXE and more.

Currently I am represented by 2 agencies and work on a freelance basis and occasionally producing shoots myself.

  • My relationship with horses

My Grandma introduced me to horses since I started to walk and they played an important role ever since. They were my refuge during hard times in my life.

When rooting down in Portugal I became slowly more and more aware that my knowledge of horses was way more superficial than I thought. Yes, I always had a deep connection with them, but I never got really the right tools or freedom to learn how to really connect with them. The biggest lesson has been that the horse is your teacher, they will tell you if you are only willing to listen.
At the moment I am studying more about techniques of natural horsemanship to enrich this bond with these beautiful beings.
